Truncated Domes ADA Access Tile - Radius 30" x 24" - Surface Mount

Truncated Domes are a commonly used underfoot detectable warning surface to alert visually impaired pedestrians of their proximity to potentially hazardous walking transitions. When using a White Cane the person has both an audible and tactile sense of the obstacles around. Variable surface ADA tiles are commonly placed in and near:

  • Sidewalk curb ramps
  • Crosswalks
  • Parking areas
  • Top of stair landings
  • Transit platform edge dropoffs
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Escalator approaches

All of Access Tile Truncated Domes are certified ADA compliant.

The Surface Mount tiles can be installed at any time and do not need to be placed in wet-set concrete. These units are considered a "Retrofit" on existing pathways.  Installation requires drilling of anchors and application of Tactile Seal & Bond adhesive on the entire back along with an ~1/4" bead around edges of each tile.

The Radius tile can be measured using the Access Tile Radius Measurement Tool and cut to fit the needed angle. Installation is the same

*One Tube of Adhesive is included per tile, however, this is typically used up when bonding the tile to the ground substrate, and additional Tactile Bond & Seal are typically required for sealing of the tile perimeter.

RULE OF THUMB: ~1 additional tube consumed for every two 2'x4' size tiles.

Minimum Order = 5 Tiles

Yellow and other bright colors like orange and red reflect light making them easier for the eye to see even with severe visual impairment.  This is why most of the ADA products sold are typically bright colors such as:

Federal Yellow -YW.

The following color options are also available for the Surface Attached Tiles. Call us if you cannot find the color you're looking for.

Ochre Yellow - OCR
Brick Red - RD
Colonial Red - COL
Ocean Blue - BL
Bright White - WH
Light Gray - LG

Common Uses For Surface Applied Tiles

All Surface Applied detectable warning tile products are designed ADA compliant. The Wayfinding bar tiles guide people safely through spaces and the truncated dome installation alerts the public when a path’s edge is close a dangerous situation. Access Tile’s Surface applied truncated dome tiles are used worldwide for municipal curbs and pedestrian crossings, serving to warn the public when they are heading to an unsafe edge.

The truncated dome’s installation can be felt through footwear, comfortably. Truncated dome technology is very useful for those with visual impairments. All detectable warning pavers are available in many colors including yellow and red.

The color contrasts help people with or without visual issues to see the warning tiles. All their ADA warning tiles are designed with a unique sound reflection technology to help those with canes to navigate the space safely.

By tapping their cane, those with visual issues can audibly hear the difference between a walkway and an ADA compliant tile.

The most common uses of Access* Tile’s Surface Applications Include:

  • ADA curb ramps
  • ADA standard wheelchair ramps
  • Accessible pedestrian crossings
  • Accessible transit platforms
  • Multi-modal transit stations
  • Safe escalator entries
  • Parking areas that are ADA compliant
  • The stair landings both top and bottom
  • Vehicular passageways

Intelligently Designed Tiles

Access Tile is the leader in the industry with affordable, detectable warning tiles. All Surface Applied tile products install within a matter of minutes and are very easy to replace. Access Tiles are now the leading choice among developers around the world when it comes to fast installation and replacement while being one of the most environmentally comprehensive products in the entire industry.

Several detectable warning pads can be anchored together using their tamper-proof stainless-steel fasteners which will remain flush with the tactile walking surface indicators.

Every tactile walking surface indicator (TWSI) is guaranteed to be slip-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and abrasion-resistant. All Surface Applied tiles have gone through extensive testing using the AASHTO O HS20-44 wheel load test. All truncated domes are tested against wear and tear to ensure the durability of the detectable warning pads. Each ADA compliant tile is equipped with several fasteners to guarantee maximum strength and support.

The detectable warning tiles are available in multiple colors and sizes.

Surface applied detectable warning pads can be cut on-site to meet the most specific project requirements. Access* Tile’s detectable warning mats are made to go beyond the project requirements.

Access Surface Applied detectable warning tiles come with intelligent design and have a variety of benefits including:
Environmentally comprehensive installation and replacement.
Adhesive locations are visual on the reverse side of the tile for easy, error-free installation.

Tactile bond and sealant ARE available at all authorized dealers. The system is designed as well as tested for both structural adhesive and perimeter edge sealant.

There are strategically placed pre-made fastener hole locations to improve installation integrity and easy installation.
All the tiles have interactive sizes to maintain pattern repeat when mounted side-by-side or top-to-bottom.

Installation Information For Access Tile’s Surface Applied ADA Tiles

These tiles are lightweight, will fit in any space, are extremely easy to handle, and will install or replace within a few minutes. Their Surface Applied tiles can be adapted to any existing concrete surface using a combination of surface adhesive, anchors, and stainless-steel pins.

You can get a complete installation package with each order of Access* Tile’s Surface Applied truncated dome tile purchased. The package includes instructions, adhesive, and fasteners.

Below, please find our quick reference for installation and replacement instructions:

Installation Instructions Step by Step:

  • Place the tile on the assigned location then trace the perimeter using a thin permanent marker.
  • Set the tile aside. Using a 4-inch diamond cup grinder, scour the concrete within the marked location and in correspondence with the location where adhesive is needed on the backside of the tile.
  • Clear up the dust with a leaf blower then clean the back of the tile and concrete with a wet rag soaked in acetone.
  • Apply surface applied adhesive to the back of the tile as shown on the tile.
The first bead should be thin and applied half-an-inch from the perimeter edge and a second thicker bead 1-inch inside the first.
  • Set the tile correctly to the curb ramp and press down firmly.
  • While stepping down on either side of the pre-made hole, drill down 3-inches into the concrete slab using a hammer drill and the recommended 3-quarter inch diameter carbide drill bit.
  • Continue to apply pressure, remove the dust and any adhesive from surfaces, and carefully set the color-matched Axium® Fasteners with a plastic-tipped hammer.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 while working across the tile until the pre-made fastener locations are done.
  • Clear the perimeter of the tile and the immediate surrounding concrete with acetone. Make sure to remove any adhesive that has leaked or escaped from beneath the tile. Apply and smooth the sealant around the perimeter of the tile.

State & Federal Code Compliance

Dome spacing meets ADA Federal and State requirements at 2.35-inches.

Truncated dome size and spacing requirements for ADA Federal and State requirements should be 0.45-inches on the top and 0.9-Inches on the bottom diameters.

Must fully comply with all ADA and OSHA requirements for surface height transitions to prevent top risks.
