SKU MM-HDPE-18-30-100

Designed for durability, our polyethylene plastic sheet is available in 100’ rolls of varying widths ranging from 18” to 60”. The plastic is heavy-duty and due to the enhanced thickness (rating from 30 mil to 100 mil) the material is tear and puncture resistant. All of the thicknesses are flexible and are able to make radius turns however the degree of flexibly ranges as the thinner plastics are more flexible than the thicker options. The plastic is waterproof and can be installed either underground or above ground as uv inhibitors are added during the manufacturing process, providing the plastic with resistance to breakdown when exposed to sunlight. The polyethylene plastic sheets are manufactured from recycled plastic and are made in the USA.

Note: Our HDPE plastic is only available in roll widths up to 60 inches.

Please note that we are unable to provide custom roll lengths.

HDPE Is A Plastic: An Overview

HDPE or High Density Polyethylene is a plastic material made from crude oil. It's one of the most flexible materials found anywhere. HDPE is used in manufacturing for many different containers including milk jugs, water bottles, shampoo, and hair conditioner bottles. It's not expensive and lasts for a very long time which is why both manufacturers and consumers have chosen it over other materials. Its incredible properties will withstand intense pressure as well as extreme temperatures./Two other great benefits, HDPE is resistant to chemicals and UV rays.

High Density Polyethylene is also a chosen material in the food industry, for medical devices, construction materials, and many other products. Due to its versatility, it's used by automobile manufacturers for car parts, making children's toys, and clothing.

    The Many Benefits Of HDPE

It's Heat Resistant: HDPE stands out from the crowd because it can handle extreme temperatures. You can place hot food in a container made of HDPE and it will remain safe and not damage the food because it's also non-toxic! This material is an excellent choice for food containers, medical devices, and many other products where safety is critical.

High Strength: HDPE has a tensile strength of 23.0 – 29.5 MPa which is 1.5-2.0 times higher than polyethylene terephthalate. In other words, it can withstand significant loads without cracking or breaking apart. Note - Polyethylene terephthalate or PET is a common plastic resin used in fibers, containers for food, liquids, etc.

HDPE has very unique properties from its molecular structure and low degree of branching meaning it can withstand much heavier loads. This material is harder than most plastics and will resist higher pressures. Due to these properties, it's a chosen product for piping and other outside applications.

    It's Recyclable

When you are done with an HDPE product, it can be melted down and reused. The material is heated until it turns into a liquid. Once that happens, the resin is produced and then molded into a new product.

Recycling reduces the amount of virgin resin needed for a new HDPE product. This process uses less energy and fewer greenhouse gases are needed. On top of that, recycling HDPE creates value from waste which in turn will help out the environment.

    Chemical Resistance

HDPE offers excellent resistance to chemicals which is good for most applications requiring high levels of chemicals including grease, solvents, acids, alkali, oil, and detergents. HDPE is very popular for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, paint, food packaging, and adhesives, to name a few.

    Resists Impacts

Due to its excellent properties, HDPE will withstand impacts with a force up to 50 kN (10 tons). PET, on the other hand, can withstand impacts with a force of up to 20 kN (4 tons).

When it comes to impact resistance, the difference between HDPE and PET is the thickness. HDPE offers a higher average thickness versus PET and other plastics that offer a lower average thickness.

    Some HDPE Products

Milk jugs, shampoo, and conditioner bottles are often made using HDPE materials because they are thicker liquids and heavier meaning they need good support. Another reason for using HDPE, it's lightweight and does not add much in terms of weight to the product. Because HDPE is recyclable, it can be turned into another product. This cuts back on single-use containers.

    Containers For Storing Food

Before getting a container to store food, give it a thought. Not all plastic containers are good for storing food. There are two categories of plastics that are safe for food storage:

    BPA-free and phthalate-free

HDPE has been approved by the FDA as food-grade packaging because it is BPA-free, and will not leak into the contents. Also, it's resistant to mold.

    The Resin Identification Code

You can check to ensure the product is made of HDPE by checking the Resin Identification Code on the container. Look for the triangle made of arrows with a number in the center. That code will tell you the type of plastic or what the product is made of. The code for HDPE is number 2. If you see a different number, keep in mind HDPE is not the only FDA-approved food-grade plastic. The FDA has approved resin codes 1 through 7 for food storage materials.

    Underground Pipes

HDPE pipe systems are used for many operations including sewer mains, standard trenching of water mains, and gas main pipelines. HDPE systems have proven to be cost-effective and will save money on maintenance.

    Equipment For Playgrounds

HDPE is an excellent material for playground equipment because it is strong, lightweight, holds up under children's activities, and withstand all kinds of weather conditions. They do not need a lot of maintenance and can be cleaned easily. Playground equipment does not leak chemicals, making them safe for children.

Toys made from HDPE will last a long time and are free of toxins. These toys can withstand the continual punishment delivered by pets and children every day.

    Recycled HDPE

Due to its longevity, recycled HDPE material is in high demand for outdoor furniture and products including plastic tables, benches, fences, chairs, decking, garbage bins, and bike racks. HDPE is high in demand because it's environmentally friendly, low-maintenance, long-lasting, nontoxic, and can be recycled many times over.

    In A Nutshell

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is an excellent, versatile material that is very strong, flexible, lightweight, and lasts a very long time. It can be stretched and not torn, bent and not break, and twisted and bounce back. Also, it's heat and chemical-resistant, and can be cut and shaped for so many different uses. The best news yet, because it's recyclable, it is good for the environment.

Whether you are a manufacturer designing new products or a consumer buying toys for your children and pets or need garbage bins that will hold up through all sorts of conditions including a garbage truck accidentally running into it, HDPE is the very best material on the market for these purposes.
