A silt fence roll is silt fence supplied in a continuous length, most commonly 100 feet per roll. Rolls come as pre-staked fence (fabric with stakes attached) or as fabric-only for installation with a silt fence plow. Buying by the roll makes it easy to estimate how much you need: divide your perimeter footage by the roll length and add a little for overlap.

What is a silt fence roll?

A silt fence roll is simply how the product is packaged and sold, in a continuous run you cut and install as needed. Most of our fence comes in 100-foot rolls. Pre-staked rolls have the wood stakes already attached at intervals, so you unroll and drive. Fabric-only rolls are bulk geotextile for mechanical installation on large jobs.

Roll options

• Standard pre-staked rolls: fabric with oak stakes attached (about eleven 36-inch oak stakes per 100-foot roll), in 24 inch and 36 inch heights.
• Wire backed rolls: reinforced fence in 36 inch, 42 inch, and 48 inch heights, supported by separately ordered steel T-posts.
• Fabric-only rolls: bulk geotextile for use with a silt fence plow on large sites.

How many rolls do I need?

Measure the linear footage of the perimeter (or contour line) you need to protect, then divide by the roll length. Most fence comes in 100-foot rolls, so a 450-foot perimeter needs five rolls with a little to spare. Add extra for overlap at seams, where you splice two runs together, and for corners and returns. Pre-staked rolls include their oak stakes (about eleven per roll), so you do not order those separately. Wire backed rolls do not include posts, so also plan about 11 steel T-posts per roll.
