SKU DS-240

Trap large debris such as leaves and trash floating in captured water and prevent them from entering and potentially clogging the drainage system with the Dura Slope® Channel Drain Trash Bucket. Place the Trash Bucket inside the Dura Slope Catch Basin to help protect your channel and drain pipes against obstructions more than using just a catch basin alone. The Trash Bucket comes with a handle to make it easier to remove from the basin for cleaning. Made of zinc-plated steel and built to withstand harsh environments

NDS Dura Slope® Channel Drain System — Complete Buyer’s Guide, Install Steps & Case Study

Guide • NDS Dura Slope® Channel Drain System

NDS Dura Slope® Channel Drain System: The Practical Guide for Driveways, Parking Areas, Warehouses & Pool Decks

The NDS Dura Slope® Channel Drain System is a high-performance, modular trench drain with a built-in 0.7% slope. In plain terms: the channels are pre-sloped so water naturally moves toward the outlet—reducing on-site grading and speeding up installs. Lightweight sections snap together, and you can choose from a wide array of grates, frames, and accessories to match appearance and load needs.

Why Dura Slope®? (Technical Benefits in Simple Language)

  • Smart Sloped Design: Each unit has a 0.7% built-in slope to keep water moving—less manual grading, more predictable flow.
  • Lightweight & Modular: Snap-together sections with tongue-and-groove joints and alignment tabs help crews install fast and straight.
  • Flexible Depth Options: Invert depths roughly 4.75″ to 12.8″, plus neutral (flat) models when a level invert is required.
  • Versatile Grating: Plastic, galvanized or stainless steel, ductile or cast iron, decorative and slot styles—dial in the look and load rating.
  • Comprehensive Kits & Accessories: Order full kits (grates, locks, outlets, end caps) and add catch basins, cleanouts, radius couplings, and more.
  • Heavy-Duty Capability: UV-stabilized HDPE channel walls handle auto/light-truck loads. Add iron frame kits to boost capacity for forklifts and industrial traffic.

Best-Fit Applications

  • Driveways & Garages: Intercept sheet flow at thresholds and aprons.
  • Parking Areas: Manage runoff across long, flat slabs with minimal regrading.
  • Warehouses & Loading Zones: Upgrade with iron frames and higher-load grates where forklifts operate.
  • Pool Decks & Courtyards: Maintain drier, safer surfaces while keeping a low-profile aesthetic.

How to Specify Dura Slope® (Step-by-Step)

  1. Map the flow path: Identify the low edge where water travels naturally (ramp bottom, slab joint, deck perimeter).
  2. Choose depth & slope: Use the standard 0.7% pre-slope for most runs; switch to neutral segments where flat is required.
  3. Select grate & frame: Match style and load rating (plastic/steel/iron, decorative/slot). Add iron frames for forklift traffic.
  4. Plan outlets & cleanouts: End/bottom outlets to storm piping; include catch basins or maintenance units for debris access.
  5. Detail transitions: Use radius couplings for curves and alignment tabs for straight, consistent joints.

Installation Overview (Pro-Friendly, DIY-Aware)

Translation: Pre-sloped channels do half the grading for you—set elevations, connect sections, encase, and tie into the outlet.
  1. Excavate & Bed: Trench for channel depth plus concrete bedding/encasement. Compact sub-base.
  2. Set Elevations: Start-to-finish heights should reflect the 0.7% built-in slope; use a laser level for accuracy.
  3. Assemble Channels: Snap tongue-and-groove joints together; use alignment tabs to stay straight. Keep grates in during pour to preserve geometry.
  4. Encasement: Concrete backfill per the load requirement (upgrade frames/grates for heavy traffic zones).
  5. Outlet & Maintenance: Connect to storm piping, add catch basins/cleanouts where needed, and seal joints per code.

Case Study: Warehouse Apron Upgrade Cuts Downtime

Site: 120,000-sq-ft distribution warehouse • Problem: Forklift routes crossed a flat loading apron that ponded during heavy rain, causing slip hazards and halting dock operations.

Solution: A Dura Slope® Channel Drain run using pre-sloped segments to deliver a consistent fall without re-sloping the slab. Designers specified iron frame kits and ductile-iron grates at dock doors, with decorative grates at public walkways. Catch basins were added every 60–80 ft for maintenance access.

  • Install window: Two weekend shifts to avoid weekday disruptions.
  • Outcome: No standing water during subsequent 1.5″ storm; dock downtime dropped to near zero.
  • Maintenance: Quarterly cleanouts via catch basins; grates lift quickly for debris removal.

FAQs

When do I choose neutral (flat) segments?

Use neutral channels where you must hold a level invert—e.g., over utilities, under door thresholds, or where outlet elevations are fixed.

Which grate should I pick?

Decorative or plastic for light pedestrian zones; galvanized/stainless for durability; ductile or cast iron for vehicle and forklift routes (pair with iron frames).

How often should it be cleaned?

Quarterly is typical. In heavy leaf/debris areas, increase frequency in fall. Add catch basins/cleanouts along long runs to simplify maintenance.
